SEO Tip # 18 Blogging to Improve SEO
2I would like to welcome you to my eighteenth SEO tip of the day; here I will discuss the importance of blogging to improve your SEO. I know that I’ve already talked about this in an earlier tip, but I am very passionate about blogging for SEO and for this of you who may not have read my earlier tip I wanted to repeat myself.
Blogging is in all likelihood the most worthwhile and cost effective thing that you can do in order to improve your SEO. Although they were not started with this intention today blogs have become the leading way that businesses can communicate with their customers/clients. When blogging there are a few important things of which you should be aware (see my article on blog optimization), in addition to being well optimized it is important for you to blog often, (at least once every other day) and it is important that each blog post relate to your core business in some way, for example, if you are a doctor you can blog about types of hormone replacement therapy, or if you are a business services consultant you can blog about offshore business formation jurisdictions… To have a successful blog it is also important for you to promote each post that you write, you can do this by utilizing the RSS feed to sync your blog with Twitter, Facebook and other social media that you use. Again, the most important thing about a successful blog is that you blog often and that your posts are well written and interesting to read.

SEO Tip # 9 Promote your Blog with Blog Engage
5I would like to welcome you to my ninth SEO tip of the day; here I will discuss the use of Blog Engage to promote your blog.
There are currently many social bookmarking sites, blog directories and blogger communities out there; each of these has their pros and cons… One of my personal favorite social bookmarking sites/blogger communities is Blog Engage. Blog Engage is a social bookmarking community which allows you to submit your favorite (most recent) blog post, and have other members vote on whether they like the post; you are also able to vote on other posts and comment on posts as well. I realize that this sounds like any other social bookmarking site and in many ways it is, but the useful thing about Blog Engage is that it is a very young website (although it is growing rapidly) and most of the votes are genuine. Additionally, Blog Engage provides backlinks to each blog that you post on the site and these links are given value by Google.
Blog Engage is free to join, and it is free to participate in their forum or submit articles, but they do offer a paid subscription package, which allows you to sync your RSS feed with your Blog Engage account so that each new post you write will get automatically posted on the site, the cost for this is just a few dollars per month and I’ve found this to be a very useful and cost effective feature of this platform.
SEO Tip # 8 Blog Optimization
6I would like to welcome you to my eighth SEO tip of the day; here I will discuss the importance of optimizing your blog.
Blogging is a fantastic tool which can help to greatly improve your sites’ SEO and with which you can get your site to rank for many more keywords, but as with everything else in life proper optimization of your blog can increase the benefits of blogging.
When optimizing a blog there are a few things that you should look at, the first of these is the title of your blog, your blogs’ title should describe the main purpose of your blog (what will you be blogging about), it should also be something that people might Google and if possible be catchy, for example, a good blog title for a kids blog might be “Kids Birthday Parties NJ”. The second thing you need to optimize your blog is to add the proper widgets (I like to use, tag cloud, category cloud, blog roll, recent posts…) These widgets help by generating numerous internal links between blog posts and create automated links for every new post you write. The third thing that you need to optimize your blog is for you to optimize the title of each blog post; a blog post’s title should be descriptive, clear and preferable something that people may Google, since the title will be the primary way that search engines list blog posts. (If you wish for your title to sound cute you should make sure that it still describes the topic of the post).
SEO Tip # 6 Using Google Local
1I would like to welcome you to my sixth SEO tip of the day; here I will discuss the value of using Google local.
Google local has become one of the leading methods (replacing the Yellow Pages) by which most of us obtain local information such as phone numbers of restaurants in our area… It is therefore crucial for everyone who has a website targeted at a local audience to have a listing on Google local (as well as Yahoo local, Bing local…) There are a few major benefits when it comes to using Google local, the first of these is that it is free, the second advantage being that it is really easy to set up.
When it comes to optimizing your Google local listing there are a few important things, the first is to choose the right category for your listing, choosing the right category will get you more targeted results and thus higher quality traffic. The second important thing is, if the name of your business does not clearly state what you do you should add keywords for your listing, for example “NetLZ – SEO consulting services, web 2.0 optimization, blog optimization“
SEO Tip # 5 Using Local SEO for On Page Optimization
4I would like to welcome you to my fifth SEO tip of the day; here I will discuss the value of on page optimization for local SEO.
.Local SEO consists primarily of positioning a website so that it targets a local market. Given that most websites today are local (specific to a town or region, ex: doctor’s office in Short Hills NJ, or Home remodeling Phoenix) and local traffic is often more valuable it is important for website owners to understand the basics of local SEO.
The basics of local SEO consist of targeting the right keywords that will appeal to your local market and that will get traffic to your website (one of the downsides of using local keywords is that traffic to your website may be very low, since few searches may be done locally for what you are selling, but if you use the right keywords you can be certain that the traffic that does come to your website will be very interested in your service or product). Another important aspect of local SEO is creating landing pages on your site for each town, county and region that you are targeting, each of these pages should contain basic information about the services that you offer in that town…
SEO Tip # 4 Benefits of an HTML Header
1I would like to welcome you to my fourth SEO tip of the day; here I will discuss the importance of adding an HTML header to your website.
Creating an HTML header for your website is extremely valuable and will help your site both from the user perspective and will help your site rank in search engines. A header is that bar on the top of a page that lists the main pages on the site (home, contact us, about us etc…) and is typically the first or second thing that a search engine sees when crawling a new site. Perhaps the most important thing about a good header is that it needs to be written in HTML, since this is the primary language of search engines. Another important thing is that the header should become a part of the sites template and should appear on every page of the site new and old. In addition to a good header you should also consider adding an HTML footer to your site; this is the same as a header but at the bottom of each page.
SEO Tip # 2 Using Facebook for SEO
6I would like to welcome you to my second SEO tip of the day; here I will discuss the use of Facebook for SEO.
Facebook is the world’s largest social networking community, with over 500 million registered users; Facebook might be seen as the world’s 6th largest country! Facebook is not designed for SEO (Facebook is designed to allow you to connect with people who you actually know, and if they catch you making too many friends or if they think you are “friending” too many people who you do not know they will suspend your account). Despite this, Facebook is the gorilla in the room and are simply too big to ignore, additional there are a few features that can be used for SEO. As far as your profile, the only things that Google will index are your name and your profile pic, backlinks that you mention on your wall… will not help you for SEO, although your friends may be interested In your links and may click on them… In order to get any SEO benefit from Facebook you need to create a business page, business pages are indexed by Google and some of the links mentioned there will help you improve your rankings.
Another useful feature of Facebook is the “like” button, this is a widget that you can put on any page that lets people “like” or vote for that page, although the # of likes that you have will not directly help your SEO, they may put your site or blog in front of the eyes of more people, b/c each time I like a page that page is posted on my wall, if you like this tip please make sure to like it!

SEO Tip # 1 Using Linked In for SEO
3For the next month or so there will be a segment on this blog called “SEO Tips of the Day”, I will try to post these every day or every other day. Each tip will be short and sweet and will give practical SEO advice. If you would like me to add something to this segment please leave a comment and let me know.
SEO Tip of the Day #1:
Linked In is the leading social network for professionals and is the place to go if you are looking to network with others in your field or if you are looking for a new job (since there are many recruiters on Linked In). As far as SEO there are a few things you should know, first, you should make sure that your Linked In profile is fully complete, they allow you to include a few links in your profile and if you have a website or a blog you should take advantage of this. Secondly, make sure to include a pic of yourself in the profile, this will make the profile look more legit and will get people to scroll down and perhaps click on one of your links. Thirdly make sure to invite your friends/colleagues to join you on Linked In, every new connection will add a backlink to your profile and will add value to your links.
Another useful aspect of Linked In is Linked In groups. Through groups you can have discussions with others in a certain fields and can expand your network, additionally groups are excellent places for you to announce a new feature or product.
