Today blogging is one of the most important and most cost effective ways that companies have to promote their brand and spread their message. And a correctly optimized blog can do wonders for the SEO of your primary site (but this is an issue I’ve already discussed in previous posts). In this post I want to discuss the importance of getting visitors to your blog, and a few ways that you can get more traffic to your blog.
So you’ve taken the time to start a blog, have written a few blog posts and may have even hired a dedicated person to write blogs for you, now what?
The most important thing about a blog is proper optimization, tags, categories, building links and the rest of the SEO package (discussed at length in this blog) but blogs also have other ways to promote that you can take advantage of, mainly RSS feeds and subscriptions. RSS feeds allow you to set up an automated system that will update people visiting your site of your latest blog posts, and also allows people to subscribe to your feed so that they can receive the latest updates of your blog in their RSS feed reader. If you wish to see an example of the way that RSS feeds work please check out this dedicated Squidoo lens that lists all of my cool blogs. Subscriptions work the same way, and they allow people to receive your latest blog to their email if they so choose. If you properly use RSS feeds and subscriptions you will be able to maximize your blog’s reach and greatly increase your traffic.
